The Tata Sierra SUV, a name that stirs nostalgia among Indian car enthusiasts, is all set to make a grand comeback. Nearly two years after its concept debut at the 2023 Auto Expo, Tata Motors has officially announced that the production-ready Sierra will launch in late 2025. The revamped Sierra will first debut as an all-electric vehicle (EV), followed by ICE (internal combustion engine) variants, offering a perfect blend of tradition and innovation.
The EV model will be built on Tata’s cutting-edge Acti.ev platform, while the ICE variant will utilize the versatile ATLAS (Adaptive Tech Lifestyle Architecture). This dual-platform strategy ensures the Sierra caters to modern needs while staying true to its off-road heritage.
Tata Sierra SUV Design:
The Tata Sierra EV retains the signature boxy silhouette that made the original model iconic, but with contemporary enhancements. It will feature a five-door layout, sleek LED light strips spanning the width of the front fascia, and split headlamps. Rugged black bumpers, silver skid plates, and a dual-tone roof further accentuate its modern SUV appeal.
Tata Sierra SUV Powertrain:
While Tata has kept the exact specifications under wraps, the Sierra EV is expected to leverage the Gen2 platform, seen in models like the Punch EV. Anticipated battery options include 45 kWh and 55 kWh packs, promising a range of 450-550 km on a single charge, depending on the variant.
Excitingly, the Sierra EV might feature a dual-motor AWD setup, making it a capable off-roader. Meanwhile, the ICE model’s ATLAS platform is rumored to support 4×4 configurations, potentially offering serious off-road capabilities for adventure enthusiasts.
Tata Sierra SUV Features:
The Sierra aims to combine the ruggedness of an SUV with luxury-oriented features. Borrowing heavily from the Tata Safari, it is expected to include:
- A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
- Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)
- A premium 4-spoke steering wheel
- Eye-catching 19-inch alloy wheels
For rear passengers, especially in the EV version, Tata is reportedly crafting a lounge-like experience. The Sierra could offer 4- and 5-seater configurations, with the 4-seater variant featuring a lavish rear center console for a first-class experience.
Tata Sierra SUV: A Hyundai Creta Rival?
With a length of approximately 4.4 meters, the Tata Sierra is positioned as a more practical and robust SUV compared to the Tata Curvv. Its conventional SUV design and modern features make it a strong contender against the Hyundai Creta, provided Tata Motors nails the pricing strategy.

Originally launched in 1991 as India’s first off-road SUV, the Tata Sierra was a trailblazer for its time. Now, in its modernized electric avatar, it is set to play a pivotal role in Tata Motors’ EV portfolio, alongside models like the Harrier EV. The Sierra has already created waves with concept showings at the 2020 and 2023 Auto Expos, and it will take center stage in its production-ready form at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025.
The upcoming Sierra promises to bridge the gap between nostalgia and innovation, combining Tata’s legacy of rugged SUVs with the forward-looking technology of EVs. Whether you’re a fan of the original or a first-time buyer, the Sierra is shaping up to be a compelling offering in India’s SUV market.
